About the role

Eastern Health is now recruiting to the 2024 Mental Health RUSON and Enrolled Nurse Pre-Qualification Employee Program.  This opportunity is available to students with a strong interest in mental health and currently enrolled in undergraduate nursing studies or a diploma of nursing program.

 The Mental Health Pre-Qualification Employee Program is designed to support pre-qualification employees to observe the work that is done by mental health clinicians, but also observe the skill of being able to develop a therapeutic working alliance with consumers and their families who access Eastern Health Mental Health Services.

Are you currently in your second or third year of your Bachelor of Nursing (including double degree)?

Are you passionate about increasing your practical experience in mental health?

You will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse at all times, within your level of education and assessed competencies and also under clearly defined role parameters. In this role, you will support the nursing team in the delivery of safe, personal, effective and connected care. The Mental Health RUSON practices as an assistant to the health professional team, assisting and supporting the team to provide delegated aspects of patient care.

 

Essential Requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled at a University to undertake pre-registration nursing study (Bachelor of Nursing or a Bachelor of Nursing/ Bachelor of Midwifery or other double degree with a Bachelor of Nursing component)
  • Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA) via AHPRA as a student nurse
  • Successfully completed not less than 12 months of the Bachelor of Nursing Degree prior to commencing the Mental Health RUSON program
  • Currently vaccinated against COVID-19 with booster & Influenza, prior to commencing employment
  • Able to undertake N95 mask fit testing prior to or at commencement of employment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; including relationship building, team cooperation, and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with a wide range of people, including co-workers, health professionals, residents and family members
  • Ability to commit to working a minimum of 15 during duration of the program.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting, hospital or aged care facility
