Position Summary

Midwifery Refresher Program - Eastern Health

  • Are you looking to revive your midwifery career?
  • Are you keen to refresh your theoretical and clinical midwifery skills?
  • Would you like to experience midwifery at one of Melbourne’s leading public hospitals?

Eastern Health has partnered with the Australian College of Midwives (ACM) to offer Midwives who possess current Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia registration (condition free) the opportunity to re-enter the hospital and domiciliary midwifery workforce.

Places are available on the Eastern Health Midwifery Refresher Program commencing early 2020. We will provide you with a supported program of education, clinical teaching, hospital-based learning and additional support whilst regaining confidence, experience and skills in the clinical setting. Prior to commencement of the clinical component at either Box Hill or Angliss hospital, you will be required to complete the theoretical element of the program online through the ACM. This is comprised of 37 core hours of study and access to 16 elective hours. More information can be found https://www.midwives.org.au/shop/refresher-program-midwives. Successful applicants will be required to incur the cost of this part of the course themselves.

The clinical component of the refresher program is free, and can be undertaken in a full-time capacity over six weeks (five days per week) or part time over eight weeks (three or four days per week). It includes access to clinical educator support, professional development study days, skill acquisition via simulation based learning and clinical placement in the acute ward setting. There is no requirement to work weekends, public holidays or nights. The PROMPT and FSEP study days are included in this program.

On successful completion of the program you will have the opportunity to apply for midwifery roles within Eastern Health.

Previous acute experience will be considered favourably. Perhaps you work in community? Maternal Child Health Nursing? Private Maternity Unit? This is a unique opportunity to return to acute care - Delivery/Birth Suite and pre and post-natal units as part of our maternity services located at Box Hill and Angliss Hospitals. We also have a domiciliary midwifery team working across Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs.
