The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) of the Turning Point Addiction Medicine Unit (TPAMU) co-located at Wellington Rd Box Hill and Ward 1 East Box Hill Hospital is to support the Nurse Unit Managers (NUM) and Associate Nurse Unit Managers (ANUM) in providing effective coordination and efficient management of TPAMU in line with the Turning Point Alcohol and Drug clinical treatment service. The RN, together with the ANUM, form part of the Unit team responsible for client centred and high quality clinical care that is guided by a recovery model approach.
To be successful in this role you should possess:
- Qualification and registration as a registered nurse under the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Experience and demonstrated skills in alcohol and other drug assessments, withdrawal management, development of shared care plans, referral pathways, delivery of counselling.
- Demonstrated competence in a clinical position.
- Experience working in the alcohol, drug, dual diagnosis and/or mental health fields.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in the clinical management of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use disorders, including withdrawal management.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing widely used alcohol and drug interventions such as relapse prevention strategies, motivational interviewing technique and brief intervention.
- Demonstrated knowledge of management of challenging client behaviours including defusing, debriefing and crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of the drug treatment sector including non-government and public services, primary care, rehabilitation and therapeutic community services, mental health services and the private sector.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Proficient computer literacy.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
