About the role

Employment type: Permanent Part time

 

Location: Eastern Metropolitan Region.

 

Part Time 0.7 EFT (26.6 hours per week)

 

 

 

This is an identified Aboriginal Torres Islander position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander descent to be eligible to apply.

 

An exciting opportunity now exists for an Aboriginal person to work as part of a team of Peer Workers with Eastern Health’s Mental Health Program. The successful applicant will work across the Psychiatric Inpatient Units in the Eastern Metropolitan region of Melbourne.

 

Through sharing wisdom from their own consumer or carer experience, the Aboriginal Lived Experience Peer Worker will provide post discharge peer support and follow-up to people who have been discharged from the Inpatient Unit, and their family.

 

The goal of this position is to support to consumers and families and carers to be involved in decision making to minimise the risk of unplanned re-admission to the inpatient unit.

 

You will work collaboratively with families, carers, and staff to assist in identifying needs and providing culturally safe support. You will need to be able to reflect on your own experience as a parent and carer lived experience and be willing to utilise your experience and knowledge of cultural needs of Aboriginal people as well as families from diverse backgrounds, inspire hope, choice and self-determination.

 

As a peer support worker, you will receive the following additional benefits:
