Position Summary

Are you of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and a parent /carer of a child or adolescent who has used public mental health services and is passionate about supporting other parents and carers?

This is an identified Aboriginal Torres Islander position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander descent to be eligible to apply.

 

An exciting new opportunity exists for an Aboriginal person to work at Eastern Health, Child Youth Mental Health Service as a Family and Carer Advisor. The successful applicant will work across two programs the Adolescent Inpatient Unit and the Specialist Child Team.

Aboriginal CYMHS Family Carer Advisor will provide 0.2 EFT post discharge peer support and follow-up care to the families of adolescents who have been discharged from the Adolescent Inpatient Unit.

Aboriginal CYMHS Family Carer Advisor will also provide 0.2 EFT into the Specialist Child Team to support parents and carers of children under the age of 12.

 

Through sharing wisdom from their own experience caring for a child or adolescent with mental health illness, the Aboriginal CYMHS Family and Carer Advisor will provide support and information to parents and carers of children and adolescents who are being discharged from the Adolescent Inpatient Unit or are current clients of the Specialist Child Team.

 

You will work collaboratively with families, carers, and staff to assist in identifying needs and providing culturally safe support. You will need to be able to reflect on your own experience as a parent and carer lived experience and be willing to utilise your experience and knowledge of cultural needs of Aboriginal people as well as families from diverse backgrounds, inspire hope, choice and self-determination.

 

As an Aboriginal CYMHS Family and Carer Advisor you will receive the following additional benefits:
