Eastern Health is seeking an outstanding professional for the role of Executive Clinical Director, Surgery.

 

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest metropolitan public health services, providing healthcare for over 750,000 people across 2816 square kilometres in Melbourne’s east. We provide a range of surgery, emergency, medical and general healthcare services, obstetrics, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, state wide specialist services and community health services to a diverse community.

 

This senior role is accountable for the effective leadership and management of the Surgery Program across Eastern Health within the context of the Eastern Health Strategic Plan. The Executive Clinical Director Surgery will drive strategy and direction, clinical safety, quality and risk management as well as financial and activity performance within the Surgery Program across all Eastern Health sites.

 

You will provide excellent leadership to drive, enable and implement strategies which serve to grow, and deliver exceptional healthcare for people in the eastern region. You will be responsible for ensuring that the highest level of quality and safety is achieved and sustained. You will actively promote and participate in research relevant to the Program and promote Eastern Health’s research and academic strategy. You will also actively support the surgical training and teaching program.

You will have a record of success working at a senior level in health with a demonstrated ability to develop and effectively implement strategies which deliver great consumer experiences and public confidence. A surgical qualification is essential with extensive experience in the provision of health services to large populations.

To be successful in this role you should possess:

 

  • Medical qualification and current registration including clinical practice in a field relevant to the Program

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal

  • Demonstrated high-level leadership and change management skills

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple health professions and a commitment to excellence in the provision of health services

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and successfully implement creative solutions to complex systemic and organisational problems

  • Strong record of experience within a large, complex healthcare organisation

  • Demonstrated clinical and management experience in acute and subacute services as well as multi-disciplinary models of care

  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare financing and budgetary management

  • Demonstrated expertise in health industry workforce and industrial systems

  • Experience in successfully working with health care professionals and executive staff at a senior organisational level

  • Demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams and individuals and address under-performance issues as they arise

  • Current driver's licence

  • Post graduate qualification in a health or management-related field is desirable
